With this project, we were faced with an existing rear patio that did not provide enough usable outdoor entertaining space. The problem was solved by expanding the existing patio. We also added a bubbling sugar kettle just outside the kitchen and breakfast area to offer a subtle focal point while also providing the new space with a more peaceful ambiance. The raised planter box accentuates the Japanese maple, specially requested by the client. By taking advantage of the sloped yard, we were able to implement a raised, brick bed edge, providing another nice traditional element. The existing rear porch was discolored and did not match the new paving, so we used a water-based stain, which, unlike acid stains, provides a uniform, opaque color throughout. By scoring the concrete after staining, we were able to imitate the look of mortar joints. Many elements of landscape construction such as grade work, drainage, irrigation, concrete construction, and brickwork were utilized in the completion of this project. A project of this nature can range from $25,000-$30,000 depending upon the type and quantity of utilized materials.
