We were approached about this project after the pool construction had begun. The client wanted to incorporate a landscape solution inspired by an Italianate garden, but would not feel out of place in south Louisiana. The hardscape solution was developed by Smith and Baker and installed by the pool contractor. We included unique paving accents such as the dwarf mondo grass between the concrete pads, which also served to break up the abundance of paving in the small yard. The cantilevered arbor supports wisteria, which will filter the sunlight after it fills in. The Italianate style was accomplished by subtle details such as the citrus tree in urn, the stone and loose grave pathway, as well as the Spartan junipers, which provide a compact version of an Italian cypress backdrop for the pool. Construction elements implemented in this project included drainage, irrigation, and carpentry. A project of this nature can range from $10,000 to $20,000 depending upon the type and quantity of the materials.
